What to do when you don't have the time and energy to make a decent dinner? Get the kids involved. Here 8-year-old "Peel" and 11-year-old "Chop" help make borscht. We used the Twelve Months of Monastery Soups cookbook.
Yes! And we did this when the toddler was taking a nap. Some viewers have mentioned to me that kids and sharp knives are a scary combination, but these girls have been practicing for a long time. Even a 2-year-old can begin to slice a (peeled) banana with a dull spreader (the kind sold for cheese) or with one of those Pampered Chef safety knives (with a red plastic handle and zig-zag metal cutting edge ). I will post more about kids in the kitchen in the future!
I agree the kids should cook. They have plenty of energy.
