This week cross country and dance practices started up again, so I was stuck in the car waiting for kids at pick-up. Luckily, my daughter's practice is right next to Aquinas College's beautiful campus--I was able to get out of the car and walk around a bit. I love the statues on their grounds and the pretty landscaping.
Pretty
A LOT happened this week, including the end-of-summer annual chess tournament for our annual summer chess clinic (7th year running). The kids were helping me get ready and "Peel" made this sign, given that it's an Olympic year!
Happy
And what mom wouldn't call it "Happy" when the toddler is caught running in the house, only to find that she's trying to clean up her own mess? She was playing with the sand that we use to practice shapes and letters.....
|
First she tried cleaning it up with the table crumber........ |
|
and later (with clothes on) she tried using the dust pan. |
Also, three of the kids had Taekwando testing this week, complete with forms (patterns), board breaks and sparring. I love watching their intensity!

"Chop" testing for her recommended black belt. |

Funny
Check out this photo taken by my daughter "Wasabi" of this amazing cloud that looks like a shark!
Real
We couldn't let a week pass without some kind of equipment failure. This week it was the dishwasher, which (sob) had to be retired and replaced. Oh, and the flooding occurred just hours before a small book discussion group was due at our house and the night before the big chess tournament, too.
|
Four days without a dishwasher = a lesson in detachment. |
The book under discussion was
"Disorientation: How to Go to College Without Losing your Mind."
Oh boy! At first glance I thought the sand was paint! what a wonderful practical life lesson on cleaning up for your adorable little one! Sounds like your other kids keep quite busy too! Sorry about the dishwasher!
